The post-apocalyptic TV show has made a triumphant return to its platform, and it's accurate to state that fans were agreeably astonished by the excellence of its debut season. By portraying the retro-futuristic, nuclear-ravaged United States through the lenses of three distinct characters, it succeeded in capturing multiple facets of the player's journey.

“We’ll take ‘not terrible’ – we should print that on merchandise,” quips one of the series creators.

“Going into the first season, everyone’s like, ‘Just get it right’,” comments the game director. “We are thrilled with the reception to the show, so now people are arriving with more enthusiasm and different expectations.”

The Mojave Beckons for the Next Installment

The upcoming season is taking place in the neon-lit city, the location of the beloved game Fallout: New Vegas, which is widely regarded for having the sharpest dialogue and cast in the series, despite the fact that it was somewhat buggy at launch.

“It has a arid atmosphere, a Mojave vibe, that’s so integral to that game,” explains the co-creator. “That parched, desolate Route 66 aesthetic of the game is so much rewarding to incorporate into the show.”

In the show's timeline, a long time has elapsed since the story of the New Vegas game by the time the protagonists arrive there. However, the creators suggest that it acknowledges the fan's adventure.

Crafting a Tangible World

The Fallout TV series is praised for its tactile feel – its makers insisted on physical models and sets were built, mirroring the makeshift nature of the outposts in the games.

“Being a genre enthusiast, so many shows I watch, I’m aware that they’re all standing in front of a green screen,” comments co-creator Geneva Robertson-Dworet. “The whole point of an translation, especially of a video game, is to seem like it’s authentic.”

Indeed, pretty much each creature you see on-screen is physical, including the legendarily scary radioactive creatures known as the apex predators. In the show, they are portrayed by practical effects, and were reportedly rather intimidating up close.
